Homer W. “Bill” Wilson, 95, Hardinville, IL. passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 12:15 a.m. E.T. at Eastgate Manor Nursing Home in Washington, IN.
Homer Bill was born on September 28, 1918 in Ste. Marie Township, Jasper County, Illinois. He was the son of Homer Johnson Wilson and Velma L. (York) Wilson. On February 10, 1979 he married Charlita Montejo who survives.
Homer Bill was a lifelong farmer and oil field pulling and drilling. He proudly served his country in the United State Army during WWII. Serving with the 410th Infantry, 745th Tank Battalion C Company, his armored division was the third wave to land on Omaha Beach on D Day. Beside the Normandy Invasion, Homer Bill participated in battles and campaigns in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Among his many decorations, he received the Bronze Star Medal (GO 83 1st US Infantry Div. 44). He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Oblong, IL.; E.M. Coulter American Legion Post #69, Robinson, IL.; Olney V.F.W. Post #4226 and AMVETS. Homer Bill loved to watch westerns, walking, being outside, singing and humming especially “You Are My Sunshine” and “Way Down Yonder in Yankee Tank”; spending time with his family especially with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Charlita Wilson, Hardinville, Il.; three sons and two daughters-in-law Gene and Mia Wilson of Oblong, IL; Homer J. and Ashley Wilson of Vista, CA. and William Wilson of Carbondale, IL.; three daughters, Chary Wilson of Hardinville, IL, Corrine Wilson of Newton, IL.; and Pemie Kettle of Craig, CO.; 11 grandchildren: Lisa Wilson, Kathy Wilson, Anita (Wilson) Benoit, David Wilson, Fred Wilson, Addyson Wilson-O’Dell, Zoey Wilson, Kadence Wilson, Omar W. Wilson, Tannith Kettle, Ciara Bugay; 5 great-grandchildren: Chris Wilson James Wilson, Cody Wilson, Nikkie Benoit, and Jessica Benoit; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Edito and Elvie Montejo of the Phillippines, Ray and Esther Montejo of Australia, Ike and Mary Montejo of Belize and Trinidad Montejo of the Phillippines.
Homer Bill is preceded in death by his parents, son Omar E. Wilson (2009); brother-in-law and sister-in-law; several aunts and uncles.
